Sandi O’Neill – Owner
I started my hairdressing career in Sydney back in the 70’s when I was very young, well before the invention of Computers. Mobile Phones & the Internet. I worked in Sydney for a couple of years then returned home to work in Dubbo. I then moved to Wollongong where I finished my Apprenticeship & bought a Salon which I ran for a few years before going back to Dubbo. Since moving to the Sunshine Coast I have worked in a few Salons . I was giving up hairdressing but thought as I still had young kids I would give Mobile hairdressing a go so in 1994 I started Rolling Scissors Mobile hairdressing, I did my first wedding in 1995 & the rest is history. 20yrs later I’m still working following my passion & working with amazing brides & bridal parties all over the Sunshine Coast. I still attend long hair training when ever possible. I have completed long hair courses with Pivot Point, Sharon Blain & Lorna Evans to keep my skills up to date.
I am originally from the UK, moved to Australia in 2003 and has been working with Rolling Scissors since August 2005. When I arrived in Australia I sat for my Trade Test & my training took place in Brisbane School of Hairdressing where I obtained my Cert 3 in hairdressing. As well as my wedding commitments I also have a mobile hairdressing business and I work part time in a salon. I have attended many long hair courses in the last 10 years.
I grew up in Canada and Australia but has a German background with all my relatives still in Germany. In 1993 at the age of 18 I was offered to do a hairdressing apprenticeship in Germany and went on to train, live and work there for 10 years. I did my 3 year apprenticeship in Germany with the “Barbiere.” A German salon with an Italian boss. After my apprenticeship I decided to stay on in Germany and worked in my cousins salon, “Babettes Haardiele.” In that time I also trained with Wella in Hamburg. My passion for upstyling then started when some friends asked me if she could do their hair for their weddings. When my cousin also my boss saw my interest in up styling I began upstyle training and then applying my skills for the brides in the salon. In 2003 I returned back to Australia where my parents and sister live. Soon after I met and married my husband and we have 2 little boys. In 2010 my passion for up-styling led me to Rolling Scissors where I continues to do what I love…creating up styles for bridal parties.
The last 7 months have seen me training under Sandi’s (Mum) tutelage. She has helped to cement my love of styling hair and I’ve now started my apprenticeship as a qualified hairdresser. Before starting work in this industry I worked for 5 years in Hospitality and realised as much as I loved the work; I knew it would be important to be trade qualified for the the stability and income security after having my daughter. Since joining the team, I’ve learnt a lot and love to explore styles and incorporate my own tweaks and twists. In my free time I’ve also increased my love for braiding and can be found incorporating braids into a lot of my explorations or as I like to refer it to “mucking around”. Growing up with a mum who is passionate about this industry always had me thinking about what I wanted as a career. 7 years later I’m happy to finally say that thanks to mums passion, I’ve now found my life career.
